The Rain Walker's all-new construction is windproof, waterproof and exceptionally breathable, with the give in the material adding to the comfort and ease of movement. There are three layers including a hydrophilic membrane which allows moisture to escape. The external surface is water repellent, and the latest improvements in seam technology mean that the stitching is robust and reliable.

I found both comfort and maneuverability while playing to be first-class. I love the way that the overall look is so smart and understated, somehow classic and yet still modern at the same time. I have owned many waterproof jackets over the years, and this is quite simply the best one yet.

G/Fore Repeller Weather Resistant Jacket

This ultra stylish design that wouldn't not look out of place in a high fashion setting is actually an incredibly comfortable high performance golf jacket that does a great job of keeping you dry thanks to the water repellant DRY-TEX fabric and heat bonded seams.

Wearing the jacket in winter where it’s so easy to get mud and grime on your outfit is a little risky but the garment washes really well and in our experience comes out looking box fresh so long as you follow the care instructions. The magnetized front pockets are really clever and keep the lines of the jacket very clean and the full zip is super high quality. A really standout piece.

Peter Millar Hyperlight Link 3L Jacket

This jacket is available in three colors; Navy, Balsam (green) and the White. The white is by far the most eye-catching with its subtle camo design which while it won't appeal to everyone it undoubtedly dialed up the style factor and gave it a real on and off course credentials. When it comes to protection from wind and rain the Link 3L is the equal of anything on the market.

The three way stretch allows unrestricted movement but also good snug warm fit. One thing to note is that although this is a Classic Fit where I’m normally a medium I had to go up to a large to allow me to wear a mid layer underneath it. The hood wont be for everyone but we liked protection and versatility.

Crew Clothing's golf apparel collection offers a series of simple, modern garments designed with the course in mind. The first thing we noticed about this showerproof jacket was how stretchable and comfortable the fabric is. It is well enough fitted to look smart without being too athletic and preventing you from wearing multiple layers underneath.

Admittedly, we have only tested this jacket in light rain but it performed very well - we noticed the water beading straight off which was a good sign. The color combinations are another big plus. The navy and light blue version we tested looked modern and was versatile enough to be worn off the course as well as on it.

Peter Millar Merge Elite Hybrid Jacket

This is an update to the Hyperlight Merge jacket that we gave an Editor's Choice award to in 2022 and a refreshed design, new colors and a zippered chest pocket make a great product even better. The jacket is made from a premium performance fabric and it offers superb comfort and lightweight warmth. It’s wind and water-resistant and although you might need to pull on a fully waterproof jacket when the heavens really open.

As with the previous version, the Elite’s sleeve length was perfect - no annoying bunching up of material when standing over a shot. Suitable for on and off course wear this is one of the most versatile garments we’ve tested.

G/FORE Camo Performer Jacket

G/FORE are known for making products that really stand out and this Camo Performer jacket is a case in point. That being said we do think it does have some restraint given the camo design is not an all over print.

The super soft, luxurious material is lightweight, but provides good warmth in chilly conditions and is brilliant at keeping out the wind. The jacket is water resistant and features ‘AquaGuard’ waterproof zippers, but it’s not designed to keep out the heavy stuff. Original Penguin Golf Heritage Track Jacket

One of the brand’s producing golf clothing that can just as happily be worn away from the course is Penguin. Its Heritage Track Jacket is a perfect example. The full zip design, stretch zip collar and sleeve colors all combine to create a modern-looking garment that works just as well on and off the course.

The stretchable fabric works well with the golf swing and it is nicely fitted around the cuffs to prevent any interference when you grip the club. What’s more the fabric itself has a water repellant coating that should help to keep you dry. We also like the warmth and versatility on offer here.

There is now greater demand for apparel that can be used in a wider setting, and Peter Millar has been a key player in this.The Winter Wind Gust Jacket is a perfect example, one that can be worn and enjoyed anywhere. Its comfort comes from a thin, gridded, fleecy interior which weaves its magic without adding to the bulk, and the material has a 4-way stretch and is water-resistant.

I can easily wear this over a polo shirt or a mid-layer, or potentially even under a waterproof jacket. I have been a golfer for 40 years, and it is a real pleasure to find clothing that I can enjoy playing in, but which doesn’t label me as a golfer.

The Performer by G/Fore is a lightweight & versatile jacket that can be worn all year round. It combines an insulated soft nylon front shell with a mossed interior tech interlock for warmth, while the 4-way stretched back and sleeves ensure great comfort and mobility.

The jacket also features a 2-way front zipper and two interior pockets. This is a premium jacket at a premium price but we were very impressed with how it performed on the golf course. The shell provided warmth while the stretch material in the back and sleeves really allows for great freedom when swinging the club.

For golfers wanting a premium, smart and versatile look for on and off the course that won’t break the bank, the Approach Insulated Snap Shirt is a standout choice. This pullover features poppers at the chest to keep the wind out as well as on the cuffs for a more secure fit.

The material, despite being relatively thick, is really soft and does a great job of keeping you warm on cold days and it has plenty of give in it too to ensure you can swing freely. The letdown collar looks super smart and reduces distractions too. You’ll likely find yourself wearing this top out away from the course as much as you do on it, which enhances its value for money.

Made with added stretch fabric for maximum mobility, this hooded quarter zip mid layer from G/FORE is an ideal garment to wear under a jacket or gilet in the winter, while also providing an excellent option over a polo for those cooler evenings or autumn days when you need something light to keep out the chill. We were impressed with the comfort factor and the stretch qualities, while the moisture wicking properties make this an ideal item to have in your golf bag regardless of the time of year. The lack of pockets is a slight drawback but not an issue when paired with the excellent G/FORE Repeller Gilet.

To put it simply, I love this wind jacket because it makes transitioning from the course to just about anywhere else seamless. Admittedly it isn’t fully waterproof, but having tested it in different conditions, it does deal with light showers and wind very well. The stretchy double layer fabrication provides some solid protection and the adjustment features, and hood section, are easy to adjust. I really like the color blocked look to it although some more colors are needed. As I briefly mentioned, its versatility is probably its biggest plus point whilst it feels extremely well made too. Finally it feels lightweight and can be worn over sweaters or other golf tops easily without restricting your movement.

Crew Clothing Champion Golf Half Zip Sweatshirt

The Champion Golf Half Zip sweatshirt is made from 89% polyester and 11% elastane which provides great movement. As well as the movement, there is also a nice structure to this mid layer with a reassuring thickness that definitely keeps the cold at bay. We particularly liked the slightly weightier waistline which helped to stop the sweatshirt riding up annoyingly on our follow through.

The fit is pretty regular which makes it a pretty versatile piece which would look just as good with a pair of jeans in the evening as it does on the course.The construction feels very high quality as you would expect from a company such as Crew. This half zip mid layer would make a nice addition to any wardrobe.

G/Fore Daytona Mid

G/Fore are perhaps best known for eye-catching designs with attitude and while this midlayer has a lot of style it’s at the more understated end of the brand’s collection and will appeal to a wider range of golfers. There’s still touches of flair though - notably the brand’s signature 'Daytona' tri-color stripe details on the zippers and the rubberized Circle Gs logo on the neck.

Even though this is a low key design it’s an exceptional technical garment. The super stretchy material allows total freedom in your swing and it also offers a lot of warmth thanks to the luxurious ‘mossed’ interior. Also worth highlighting is the perfect arm and body length.

Peter Millar Fuse Elite Hybrid Gilet

Having played golf for decades, I find that the warmth and comfort offered by a gilet, combined with their no-sleeve freedom, have really enhanced my low-season golf. I was therefore delighted to try out the Fuse Elite Hybrid Gilet, a part of the excellent Peter Millar Crown Sport collection. At times when a thicker sweater or jacket is too much, it is simply ideal. I found the 4-way stretch construction to be soft and flexible, offering resistance to wind and water, and with just a touch of insulation to keep me warm. It also looks terrific, with the contrasting zipper matching the stitching at the top and bottom of the side pockets, the brand name on the right shoulder and logo on the back as well as at the top of the inner seam.

This weather resistant gilet really impressed us during testing. Made from soft DRY-TEX with stretchy knit rib siding for enhanced flexibility, this is a versatile item that can be worn in the worst of weather or even on a nice day when there’s just a little bit of a breeze and you need something over your polo.

It features a 2-way full length zipper, dual side pockets with magnetic closure and a front pocket on the chest with heat bonded seams. Additionally, the stand collar design provides extra protection from the elements, although we did find it was occasionally a little distracting when addressing putts. The gilet is available in black, navy and cream.

Peter Millar All Course Gilet

This versatile gilet is a genuine on and off course garment. It’s made with loose fill channel tube insulation that delivers what Peter Millar claims - warmth without weight. The gilet is water-resistant and windproof and features two decent sized side-zip pockets and a two-way zip front closure - a feature as undoing a little of the bottom zip can help give you a little more freedom in the swing.

One thing to highlight is that the fit is snug. For example if you are a medium in Classic Fit Peter Millar you may need to go up to a size large to make it comfortable and allow you to wear a polo and a mid layer underneath.

This thin, lightweight and slim-fitting hoodie is designed more with golf performance in mind over off-course versatility. The material incorporates four way stretch, which means it won’t restrict your range of motion when you swing, plus it is also wind and water resistant.

In fact, water beads off the surface surprisingly well, leaving no trace behind. We like the way the drawstring of the hood has been concealed inside to avoid any hanging cords that could distract as well as the open hand pockets at the front. Stylish and sophisticated, this technical garment is ideal for the serious golfer seeking a more casual look.

I enjoy playing golf in hoodies and one of my top picks on the market right now is the Textured Knit Hoodie from Original Penguin. Available in two great looking colors, Black Iris and Pearl Grey, I’ve actually used this hoodie as much off the golf course as on it, which to me, is a big plus point.

The textured fabric feels soft on the skin, comfortable, and offers some degree of warmth on those mild or chilly days. But it isn’t so thick that it would be too hot on warmer days either, I think it strikes the right balance here. The only negative is the fabric design means it is easy for fluff or lint to stick to the fabric which can be annoying to remove. But this is only a minor point on a hoodie I really like.

G/Fore Waffle Hoodie

Because every golf brand has a hoodie in their collection it’s a hard category to deliver standout from the competition but this G/Fore merino wool takes premium, classic style to the next level. It’s the most luxurious hoodie we’ve worn. It’s not a performance fabric so is not as practical as the majority of rival hoodies - we wouldn't want to wear it in poor weather or use a carry bag that often for fear of wearing the wool - but it more than makes up for in the style department. The merino wool is soft to the touch and the micro suede quarter G logo appliqué on the back & micro suede elbow patches are lovely design touches.

We’ve worn this much more off than on course and it’s drawn so many positive comments from golfers and non-golfers alike.

A modern take on a classic design, this stylish polo from G/FORE is made from fine tech jersey fabric with added stretch for maximum mobility. It features four buttons and classic tennis tail hem, with a subtle silicone G/FORE logo on the left breast.

As you’d expect from a premium product, the polo performed exceptionally on the golf course and we were very impressed with the moisture wicking properties as well as the comfort provided from the stretch fit. The Tux Banded Sleeve Tech Polo is available in three colors, including two variations of navy as well as cream.

In testing, we felt that the Lyons Performance Jersey Long-Sleeve Polo is an excellent choice offering many benefits. Part shirt, part jersey, it is the most comfortable base layer that our tester has ever worn, with the beautifully soft antimicrobial material a joy to wear and featuring moisture wicking, which effectively meant that it expelled the sweat.

Even on an unseasonably warm October day, we stayed completely dry and fresh and the sun protection that is built into the fabric means it is wearable off the course as on. There's no denying that the Lyons Performance Jersey does a great job of temperature control, which is a necessity when the climate is continuously changing.

Original Penguin Swinging Pete Novelty Print Polo

This Novelty Print polo is a favorite of ours from Original Penguin’s newest range. It depicts the brand’s mascot, ‘Pete’, swinging a golf club in an all over print pattern which I really liked (but it may put some off).

It is available in two colors, white and caviar, with the former being my top pick of the two. The shirt is made from a mix of recycled polyester, polyester and elastane, which gave me a comfortable fit along with easy freedom of movement.What's more, it is also very lightweight making it the perfect polo for those warm days and, I found it simple to wash clean as well, making it an all-round top polo shirt in terms of performance and one of the coolest looking models on the market right now.

J Lindeberg Heath Polo

You can feel the premium quality that has been used to put this highly sort after shirt together. With sweat wicking technology the polo shirt also offers TX Jersey fabric which allows for a four-way stretch within the fabric making it one of the most comfortable golf shirts on the market, albeit not the lightest golf shirt out there in terms of weight, which some golfers may prefer. The polo shirt comes as a regular fit and is very much true to size with very little excess material intruding the swing. J.Lindeberg offer this shirt in 11 different colors so there is one for every occasion. The subtle embodied logo on the collar is smart and a great contrast to the loud mesh structure logo detail on the right sleeve.

The technical color block polo shirt provides golfers with some sport-specific benefits in a design that’s both smart and versatile. We are big fans of this garment, and believe it can easily be worn with a range of different colored trousers or shorts.

Featuring a zip-up collar, which is a point of difference to most of the other polos you’ll find in this guide, the first thing you will notice is how lightweight it is. As a result, it can easily be worn under thicker garments during the winter months without restricting your swing. It also aided by the stretch technical fabric, which also makes this more applicable for on course wear than off course.

A brand you would've seen worn by Justin Rose, Bonobos often makes shirts, in particular, that stand out from the crowd but this is not the case with the Performance Link Pants. Available in eight subtle colors, the pants are one of our favorites this year. Why?

Well, the fabric feels lovely on the skin, it is very soft and comfortable, but also enables you to move well throughout your golf swing. This fabric also provides UV resistance, making these a great trouser to wear if you're playing in hot conditions but also has moisture-wicking and quick drying properties if you do get caught in an unexpected shower.

J Lindeberg Vent Pant

To begin with, the Vent pants are designed with J.Lindeberg’s Vent Fabric, which optimises air permeability and freedom of movement so you can stay cool and comfortable during warm days on the course.

Although the mesh structure design of the trousers may not be for all golfers, they still provide incredible comfort and fit superbly. Also, the pants offer a bit of stretch so, when bending down to line up a putt, there is no challenge. Featuring in seven colors, they are a great option for summer evening golf.

Original Penguin All Day Everyday Pants

If you are a fan of Penguin golf gear then these All Day Everyday Pants could be your perfect pair of pants this year. Made with a stretchy and technologically advanced fabric, it is the little details we like the most here, such as the elastic gripper waistband, and Pete the Penguin logo on the back.

The versatility here is also a huge plus point because these, as the name would suggest, it can be worn all day and just about anywhere. One thing we noticed almost immediately was the lightness of these pants too. Used on a couple of hot days this lightweight fabric construction kept things very comfortable throughout and may be preferable to some of the best golf shorts.

Peter Millar EB66 Performance Five-Pocket Pants

Peter Millar makes premium golf attire and these EB66 pants are no exception. Available in an astounding thirteen excellent colors, they are lauded for the unique combination of technical features, like two-way stretch, moisture management and easy care, with a weekend-ready five-pocket design.

The fabric felt lovely on the skin and the pants stretched and moved perfectly. We also love the little details like the camo stitching on the inside of the waist. Thanks to the classic look and fit, we felt we could use these just about anywhere.

Crew Clothing Competition Golf Pants

The Crew Men’s Competition Golf Trouser is a really nice all round piece. They are not too heavy, nor too flimsy, and are a definite all year round option for the course. The Competition trouser is made from a 92% polyester 8% elastane split and they give a really nice feel and freedom of movement. The fit is pretty regular, they don’t cling to the leg or flap around independently and the Crew logo around the left pocket is a really nice touch.

Whilst they are slightly limited in terms of sizing with only regular lengths available and also color with Navy being the only offering, what you do get is a well made, great looking trouser that is extremely comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the active-stretch technology which genuinely added to the comfort of these trousers.
